June 14, 2019

As the Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers continues our 10th year of operations, the ACOPNE is planning a number of special 10th Anniversary events at the ASCE Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) 2019 PORTS conference in Pittsburgh on September 15-18.

We are planning to honor the original founding ACOPNE Board members, the new class of 2018-2019 ACOPNE Diplomates and Honorary inductees, and the recipients of the two Inaugural ACOPNE awards: Mr. Ron Noble, P.E., D.CE, D.PE, D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE as Inaugural recipient of the Service to the ACOPNE Award and Mr. Ed Schmeltz, P.E, D.CE, D.NE, D.OE, D.PE, Dist.M.ASCE as recipient of the Inaugural Outstanding Practitioner Award.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the PORTS conference and celebrating this important milestone with you.

The ACOPNE is now accepting nominations for service on the ACOPNE Board of Trustees for 2019-2022. We encourage you to nominate yourself or a fellow ACOPNE Diplomate for the seats of Board of Trustee At-Large. We hope to attract a slate of highly interested candidates that are representative of a broad range of geographic, professional and demographic diversity.  The Board of Trustees will have two vacant seats to fill a 3-year term beginning October 2019.

The ACOPNE Board meets once per year and convenes on a conference call monthly. If you are interested in being considered, please send an email to [email protected] with an updated Bio or Resume and a brief paragraph statement on why you would like to serve on the ACOPNE Board of Trustees.

Thank you to many of you that have begun following our ACOPNE LinkedIn company page. Since the launch of the ACOPNE LinkedIn company page, the page has received nearly 10,000 views! Please spread the news and if you have any news items that you would like see covered or mentioned on our company page, please send to us at [email protected].

Adding more promising talents to our ranks is one of the most powerful things we can do to keep our achievements growing. We now have over 175 Diplomates, and our renewals are at an all-time high. This very good news should be trumpeted far and wide. You have been pivotal to the achievements that led to this event. As our best and brightest, you’re playing a leading role in helping to build a better world and continue to be tremendous assets as we work to broaden our impact both in the U.S. and abroad.

Board certification is the highest level of advanced post-licensure certification for professional engineers (P.E.). Much more than a distinguished achievement, it brings with it a strong sense of responsibility to the community we live and work in, a commitment to optimizing the engineering solutions we develop and maximizing the benefits our work provides, and a sense of belonging and contributing to our noble profession. It takes a concerted investment and serious commitment to reach this milestone. Achieving ACOPNE Diplomate board certification is well worth the challenge. If you know a professional engineer practicing in coastal, ocean, navigation or port engineering that should be an ACOPNE Diplomate, please encourage them to send us their completed application or contact us at [email protected].

ACOPNE cannot maintain its renowned level of excellence without your participation in the Academy and its work. With your help, support and leadership by example, The Academy will continue to grow in standing and reputation, and advance the practice of coastal, ocean, port and navigation engineering. Thank you for all you do for ACOPNE. We commend your leadership and your contributions to the civil engineering profession.

With profound gratitude and warmest wishes-
