ACOPNE President-Elect Paul Boulos to Receive EWRI 2019 Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award and Lecture
ACOPNE President-Elect Dr. Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE was selected by the ASCE’s Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) to receive the 2019 Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award and Lecture. Dr. Boulos is recognized for his extraordinary accomplishments in using fundamental scientific principles and current research findings to solve the most challenging water quality problems. Dr. Boulos also was recognized for his reputation as one of the world’s foremost experts in computational hydraulics, water resources and navigation engineering acclaimed for practical and scientific expertise in both academe and the corporate world.
Dr. Boulos is a recipient of the U.S. Ellis Island Medal of Honor, one of America´s highest accolades; the ASCE John I. Parcel-Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award; the Pride of Heritage Award from the Lebanese American Foundation; and the Lebanese American University Alumni of the Year Award. He was inducted into the University of Kentucky College of Engineering Hall of Distinction, the highest honor the university bestows on its alumni; and to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Boulos was also bestowed the Honorary Diplomate (Hon.D.WRE) by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE) as well as Distinguished Diplomate, Navigation Engineering (Dist. D.NE) by the ACOPNE, the highest honors for both academies. He is a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Diplomate (by Eminence) of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
Boulos is past president of AAWRE, and serves on the Boards of Trustees of AAWRE and ACOPNE; the Advisory Group for the NAE Center of Engineering, Ethics, and Society; and the ASCE Industry Leaders Council. Paul has written nine authoritative textbooks and more than 200 technical articles on issues critical to the water and wastewater industry.
Paul received his Doctorate, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky, along with a Bachelor´s degree in General Science from the Lebanese American University. He has also completed Harvard Business School´s Advanced Management Program.

Dr. Boulos will be awarded the Simon W. Freese award certificate and cash prize at the 2019 EWRI Congress in Pittsburgh, PA.
