Stephen A. Curtis, P.E., D.PE, Dist.M.ASCE, named Distinguished Member of ASCE
The Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) is proud to announce that Stephen A. Curtis, P.E., D.PE, Dist.M.ASCE, has been named a Distinguished Member of ASCE.
Distinguished Membership is the highest honor ASCE can bestow. It is reserved for civil engineers who are either ASCE Members or Fellows. One class of recipients is formally inducted annually.
A Distinguished Member is a person who has attained eminence in some branch of engineering or in the arts and sciences related thereto, including the fields of engineering education and construction."
Whether elected from the membership as a Society Fellow or Member, Distinguished Members (formerly called Honorary Members) are entitled to all the rights and privileges of the Society. The total number of Distinguished Members elected in any year should not exceed one for every 7,500 members. Members of the Board of Direction are ineligible for election to honorary membership during their terms of active membership on the Board of Direction.
Curtis was Vice President/Program Lead – Ports, Harbors & Waterways Program was most recently at Collins Engineering, Inc. as Program Lead-Waterfront Services, before recently retiring with over 40 years’ of experience.
He received his B.S., Civil Engineering from the University of Maine in 1974 and has his P.E. license in Virginia, Maine and Texas.
He is an experienced senior level project design and construction manager, having worked on large-scale port waterfront facilities; bridge, highway and intermodal freight rail projects; military base facilities; and wastewater treatment facilities. Curtis is well-versed in all aspects of program and project development, management and facility maintenance, including project planning, environmental and other permitting requirements, budgeting and staffing, qualification-based selection of consultant engineering firms, fee negotiations, design contract administration and management, biddability/constructibility review of construction contract documents, construction materials and workmanship quality assurance, construction administration and management, and disputes resolution. He has a proven track record of bringing in high quality, completed projects on schedule and within established budgets.
